NONDAS Corfu Holidays

ROUND AND ABOUT

Five minutes walk down the hill brings you to a well-stocked supermarket, a small gift shop and San Stefano Travel (highly recommended) which can arrange car hire and a wide range of trips including horse riding, scuba diving, boat trips to nearby islands and coach trips around Corfu.

Opposite the supermarket is a new bar ‘Simple’ which is run by Leo who used to work at Elpida’s. Leo has a bubbly personality and is an excellent host. He has transformed the bar which now has a clean and simple déor with a large decking area and second bar outside at the back.

Two minutes on from the supermarket and you are on the long, golden, sandy beach. No shingle or pebbles here, perfect for sunbathing and building sandcastles (sand sculptures are a recent speciality). The beach shelves gently into the pure blue sea, is perfect for swimming and ideal for children. Sunbeds and umbrellas are for hire if you want them and there is a shop selling drinks and snacks and offering pedaloes, parascending and donut rides. The beach also has a lifeguard and a flag system and, if you walk right to the end and round the corner there is even a small nudist area tucked discreetly out of sight! Have a look at our "Photos", including the rather spectacular 360 degree panoramic view of the north end of the beach.

Turn left from the supermarket and the road will take you past a dozen restaurants (see review) and a couple of hotels on its way to a small Church, the old harbour (there is another panoramic photo of this area) and the new harbour from where some of the boat trips leave and which provides a safe haven for the fishermen. Turn right at the supermarket and the road will take you up past a few shops and restaurants (see review) to a junction where you turn left into the main village road with its wide variety of bars, restaurants, shops, hotels and car and bike rental companies. There is also another supermarket and a very good bakery on the corner offering freshly baked bread and traditional Greek pies and pastries.

While travelling around this year, we noticed signs for a 'Heritage Walk' concentrated around Arillas and San Stefanos - we didn't get round to doing it this year but have got it on our list of things we want to do and you can find out more details from an extract from 'The Corfiot' magazine on http://www.allcorfu.com/we-corfiot-0407.html.
